Starlin Castro, the Cubs and a Piece of Dirt.

Yesterday, I took the recycling to the depot and that line from How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” It came without packages, boxes and bags” was played repeatedly in my head. No, Christmas came with packages boxes and bags. It came just the same.

As I’m finding a neat spot on our wall for the framed dirt from Wrigley Field, my thoughts are all ready thinking about Opening Day. It’s a few months away but the anticipation of who is going to be in the lineup on the most glorious day of the year (ok, not including my anniversary and son’s birthday).

Despite his recent troubles with the law, Starlin Castro is poised to have a breakout year. If last season was his comeback year, then this year should cement the young shortstop as a bona fide future hall of fame contender.  Yup, the Dominican Dynamite is in a great position to achieve 3000 hits. In a great post by Bleed Cubbie Blue, Starlin Castro is on pace to do just that.

So you see, as I look out into our grass covered backyard in these last days of 2014, the anticipation for Opening Day is growing more and more. Shoot, I can’t wait for spring training to get a taste of the season.

I believe for the first time in a long time, the Cubs aren’t just rebuilding, they’re going to compete in 2015. However, the recent acquisition of David Ross could spell the end for Welington Castillo. I hope not, but it could be a possibility.

Believe it,

Mark

I hate to see you do this to yourself. You are the Cubs. Castro won’t be able to get a visa, because he will be on the FBI’s most wanted list. Lester will trip over a black cat and be out for the season. Maddon will have an epiphany and join a Buddhist monastery, because his karma is out of balance. Believe it.

That’s awesome! In the crazy game of Cubs baseball, that is totally believable!

In the past 5 seasons Cards fans have gone from “class of the League” to the biggest self-entitled douchebags. Believe it.

I don’t know, the Cards are still a pretty fierce bird. I’d trade Lester, Wada and two minor leaguers for Wainwright.
