The Cubs are on a four game winning streak and sit five games back of division leading St. Louis Cardinals. Yesterday, the Cubs swept the New York Mets in a thrilling come from behind victory 6-5.
This was a huge series for the team and getting the sweep puts confidence in an all ready confident group. The team is swinging the bats well and getting production from everyone.
“I see heart,” Dexter Fowler said. “I see every guy just trying to do their job and nobody trying to do too much, which is awesome. You have guys on the team who know their role and they’re playing their role well. Mine’s getting on base and I’m just trying to contribute.”
That’s the key to winning any kind of championship. Getting everyone on board and contributing but winning series like the Cubs did against the Mets.
“To come in here, and we knew who we were facing, we knew we were facing big arms [of the Mets], and to grind out at-bats like everyone has done all year, is nice,” Chicago’s Anthony Rizzo said.
It’s more than nice, it’s fantastic. These were things that the Cubs didn’t do too well last year. 0-79 when they were behind in the ninth inning. That’s a mighty deficit but the way they’re playing this season and coming back in games is a terrific sign of things to come.
“I’ve been involved in some bad moments, too, and teams that really don’t demonstrate that kind of ‘want to’ or whatever you want to call it,” Joe Maddon said. “For me, right now is a very familiar feeling, how we feel right now, and how our guys are going about their business. I want this to be the expectation is that we’re going to do this.”
That’s all fans wanted was for the Cubs to compete in each game and not only make it entertaining but to make it fun to come out to the ballpark. Speaking of Wrigley, we’re heading to Sunday’s game and we’re bringing Canada with us. Look out for us over by Anthony Rizzo about twelve rows up. Now, let’s hope the rain keeps away.
See you when we get back. Lets Go!
